RECHARGE BASIN DESIGN TESTING
Project: Measure Continuous Surface Percolation Rate, for Design Parameters of Surface Recharge Ponds. Client: CH2MHill/Montgomery Watson/PVWMA Location: Pajaro Valley, CA.
Project Description:
As subcontractors to the design group, Weber, Hayes and Associates constructed Percolation Test Basins at 2 proposed Surface Recharge basin locations, and ran field tests to measure actual surface recharge rates. Unexpected low recharge rates identified the importance of cemented zones in the sandy aquifer in limiting percolation. Additional site characterization included installation of deep and shallow monitoring wells, and conducting multiple aquifer pumping tests to determine the aquifer properties and the continuity of low permeability confining layers in the subsurface.
