SEPTIC SYSTEM DESIGN AND TESTING

Project Description:

Weber, Hayes and Associates provided an alternative septic system solution for a parcel located in a bedrock area of the Santa Cruz Mountains where traditional absorption field design was not suitable. An "unbuildable" lot with stunning views of the Monterey Bay was successfully developed following a detailed subsurface characterization of the site, design of an alternative sand filtration system and percolation pits, and system testing. A detailed hydrogeologic investigation which established the local depth to groundwater and subsurface permeability, allowed calculation of the transport time of treated effluent to groundwater provided the key to the site's septic design.

Tasks:

• Subsurface characterization studies to establish design parameters and satisfy regulatory permit requirements. Studies include percolation tests, trench soil profiling, piezometer installation.
• Septic system sizing, design and permitting.
• Project coordination with regulatory agency personnel and licensed septic system installation contractor.
• Installation oversight by experienced field staff.
